Democratic engagement includes actual participation in municipal, provincial or federal politics, and also a belief that you have some influence over the decisions that are being made by the government.
One way to measure democratic engagement is the voter turnout: the percentage of all registered voters who cast their ballots in a given election. In the 2014 Ontario provincial election, the voter turnout in Waterloo Wellington was approximately 52.7%. The voter turnout in Ontario for the same election was very similar, at 52.1%.
